Yellowhead
Day 5:
Today seemed laid back compared to yesterday. Since we drove into the RV park after closing last night, we waited till they opened so we could pay. The total was $30. I gave them my debit card and for some reason their machine wasn't working. "Do you have any cash, eh?" the lady said.
"I do," I replied, "But I'm almost all out of Canadian money."
"Oh, well. I can take American dollars if you want me to, eh?"
This was a lifesaver!! First, we stopped by an St. Paul's Church, with an original bell-tower from the 1890's. Then, we drove by some totem poles and finally stopped to get gas.

Driving on, we stopped at the Hazelton Visitor's Centre, trying to decide if we wanted to visit the 'KSAN Village before driving on. While we were there, we wound up buying a few things, including a book about the Spirit Bear we'd seen the previous afternoon. When I went to pay, I asked if she took Visa and, of course, she didn't. But she offered to take American money and give me change in Canadian. She worked out the exchange rate on a calculator and took my money. This marked the second consecutive blessing. Not only was I able to pay without depleting my Canadian money, I was actually able to get a little more without having to use an ATM!!
The scenery around the farmer's market in Hazelton is breathtaking!! |
In the Hazelton area, we crossed the one-lane, metal-grated suspension bridge, stopping at a farmer's market that was open and got some local produce and wound up going to the 'KSAN Village.

After leaving Hazelton, we just drove on, stopping only for fast food in Smithers (that we ate in the car) and a potty break in Houston. We drove on until we got to Prince George, BC, which is a big enough town it actually has more than two or three stores adjacent to each other, giving it the resemblance of civilization.
Stopping to get a few supplies at the supermarket, Ben, Daniel and I played ball in the parking lot while Jenny went in to restock a few things. After she returned, we continued on to the RV park, Bee Lazy RV. By this time, it was dark outside and we had a little trouble finding the facility, thinking we must have passed it but deciding to go on. Then, we found the sign and turned in.
After arriving, I set up the water, electric and sewer while Jenny cooked dinner, which consisted of an omelet made with ingredients from this morning's farmer's market. Then, we all had showers and we put the kids to bed, another full day.
Wildlife to date: 1 Moose, 21 Bears.
