Hotel Life

For the past week, we have lived in a hotel in Fairbanks.  We've swum in their pool, eaten their breakfast, watched TV, used their internet (which I'm very happy to say has a security code that changes once a week), and slept in their beds.

During this same time, we've been cleaning the old house like mad, waiting for housing to clear us, an appointment scheduled for Monday morning at 9:30.  (By we, I naturally mean mostly Jenny's been cleaning, but everyone has done their own little part.)  We've scrubbed walls and painted walls, vacuumed, swept and mopped floors, peeled stickers off of doors and so on.  Daniel has sat in his high chair for a lot of the time and watched movies, lots of Spiderman on Netflix while Jenny's been doing cleaning during the days while the kids were at school.  While Jenny's been cleaning during the day, I've spent a lot of time doing the out-processing for Fort Wainwright.

During the same time, we've also been packing the motor-home.  Some nights, it's stayed in a parking lot near the hotel; some days it's stayed at the old house.  Right now it is full of everything from the old house except for the cat and the lizard.  I don't think it will be going pack on post again until Monday morning after we ship the van and have nothing left.

Wednesday at 3pm, some people came over from housing, giving us an idea of what we had left in the house to finish up cleaning.  That night, Jenny and Rebekah and Jonathan went to the old house to paint.  They were there most of the night and Rebekah was groggy the next morning but managed to get off to school on time.

Thursday night, Jenny and Rebekah and Jonathan went to a jewelry party with Rebekah's friend Aubrey Congdon.  Aubrey was Beka's best friend in first grade, in Mrs. Harmon's multi-age class.  Then she moved to another district but they have still kept in touch, going for parties and sleepovers.  Aubrey's mom (and thereby Aubrey as well) is related to a lady who teaches widowed ladies in Africa to make these unique beads and then markets and sells them in the United States, a very unique and interesting ministry that we wanted to support.

Last night, we let the kids each invite one friend to the pool for a party.  Rebekah invited Aubrey and Ben invited his friend Gabe Silas.  After swimming in the indoor hotel pool, we ordered Papa John's and watched the original StarWars movie on Blue Ray on the laptop.

Ben and Gabe playing Angry Birds on the Tablet.  Gabe's father is a full-blooded Athabaskan and helped host a pot-latch at Denali Elementary last year.

After their friends had gone, it was sad and we settled them all down for bed, the end of a very long, very productive, very exhausting week.  It's getting frustrating living in three different homes, and we are all looking forward to next week when we will be on the road and our lives will be a lot simpler.
